We know that birth and postpartum care can bring up a lot of questions — and that’s completely normal. Here you’ll find honest, straightforward answers to some of the most common things families ask when considering doula support. If you’re wondering about something specific, feel free to reach out — we’re here to help.
A doula is a trained birth companion who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after your baby’s arrival. I’m not there to deliver your baby medically—that’s your midwife or doctor’s role—but I’m by your side to help you feel calm, confident, and heard. Think of me as your guide, advocate, and a steadying hand whenever you need it.
Most clients reach out from initial positive pregnancy test. This way, you feel entirely supported throughout your whole pregnancy journey.
I work with everyone whether it’s your first pregnancy or fourth. Everyone deserves to feel supported.
Your doctor and midwife focus on the medical side—checking your baby’s heart rate, monitoring your contractions, handling any interventions, and ensuring a safe delivery. My role is purely supportive and non-medical: I help you breathe through contractions, suggest comfort measures (massage, positioning, breathing techniques), offer encouragement, and make sure your partner knows exactly how to support you. I’m also that extra set of eyes and ears to relay your wishes to the medical team, so you never feel lost in the hospital hustle.
Definitely—they’re more than welcome! In fact, I encourage your partner (or a close friend/family member) to join prenatal visits so they can learn how best to support you. During labor, they become part of our “birth team,” and I show them simple massage techniques, breathing cues, and comfort-measure ideas. Postpartum visits are also a family affair—I’m here to help anyone who’s caring for baby feel confident and informed, too.
